    Meal Kit Delivery Information

While both of these meal kit services deliver to the majority of Canada, there are few exceptions. But don’t worry, all you have to do is enter your Postal Code when choosing your recipes and both Goodfood, and HelloFresh will automatically let you know if they do not deliver to your specific location.

Goodfood delivers unique recipes and high quality ingredients to both residential and offices across the country, from British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, and Quebec, all the way to the Maritimes.

HelloFresh delivers their high quality meal kits to both residential and offices in almost all reaches of the country. From British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, Newfoundland, and the Maritimes.

Goodfood delivers to residential addresses up to 8 PM local time, and 5 PM for offices.

HelloFresh delivers between 8 AM and 8 PM for both residential and business addresses.

No. Goodfood will safe drop your meal kit box, and the insulated box will keep things fresh for up to 12 hours.

No. HelloFresh will safe drop your meal kit box, and the insulated box will keep things fresh for up to 12 hours.

In terms of value, both Hello Fresh and Goodfood cost nearly the same amount per serving. With the discount, Goodfood costs about $7.07 per serving, while HelloFresh is only $5.50 per serving.  HelloFresh charges a minimal shipping fee of $9.99 per box, however with the latest discount, the shipping fee is waived,  while Goodfood’s shipping is always free!

Both of these meal kits offer variety in different ways. HelloFresh offers approximately  35 recipes to choose from each week (some of these recipes have an additional cost), and Goodfood offers up to 40. Of these 40 recipes however, only nine of them cost $11.49 per serving and the rest range anywhere from $13.53 to $28.48 (for the L’artisan options).

In terms of recipe variety, we found that HelloFresh offered an elevated twist of mostly American fare in addition to a few internationally-inspired dishes. Goodfood offers a much wider internationally inspired menu and incorporates many East and South Asian ingredients into its recipes.

Both meal kit services offer incredibly fresh ingredients, but while all of the ingredients we used from the HelloFresh box were familiar, some of the ingredients from our Goodfood boxes we had never used or heard of before (why have we never heard of finger limes? They’re amazing!) There are pros and cons to each of these factors. Having familiar ingredients meant that cooking the recipes was easy and uncomplicated. Having new-to-us ingredients make cooking a little more difficult, but also exciting. If you’re looking for a familiar, uncomplicated and delicious cooking experience, we definitely recommend HelloFresh. If you’re looking to challenge yourself in the kitchen and try something deliciously new, then we recommend Goodfood.  We also want to note that if you’re a pasta fan, Goodfood featured fresh pasta ingredients and HelloFresh offered dry.

    Dietary Needs

While neither of these meal-kit delivery services offer menus specifically for gluten or dairy-free diets, however they both offer several options for those who have these dietary needs. HelloFresh offers a few recipes that can easily omit dairy or gluten in their ingredients. Goodfood has more variety as they include a few dairy and gluten free options without the need to make modifications.

Skip a Week or Cancel Your Subscription Anytime

Both HelloFresh and Goodfood are subscription-based offers which means that once you sign up for a box, the order will auto-renew and continue to send you weekly boxes on your specified weekday unless you manually make changes to your account. Changes to skip a week or cancel your subscription can be easily done with each company. For HelloFresh you can simply skip a week by clicking a button on your dashboard or cancel your subscription by selecting that option in your settings menu.

Skipping a week works the same way for Goodfood, but to cancel your subscription you must either call, or chat with one of the Goodfood support team through the messenger service on their website. Instead of cancelling, they will opt to have you take an extended break for several months. If you choose to take the break, Goodfood will notify you when your subscription is due to start again and ask if you would like to extend your break or start receiving boxes.  If you would prefer to just cancel your subscription entirely, the support team will help close your account.

Goodfood makes it easy to skip a week, or up to 12 weeks if you really want. Just visit the "Your Selection" page and click "Skip Week". If you'd like to skip more than the one week, just visit the "Delivery Schedule" page in your profile.

    • If your scheduled delivery is for Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday you can skip until the preceding Wednesday at 11:59 PM EST.
    • If your scheduled delivery is for Thursday, Friday or Saturday you can skip until the preceding Saturday at 11:59 PM EST.

Much in the same way that Goodfood allows you to skip, change or cancel you subscription, HelloFresh lets you do this though the "My Deliveries" page.

    • If your delivery is scheduled for Thursday, or Saturday, you can skip or change your order until preceding Wednesday at 11:59PM PST

Goodfood VS HelloFresh - The Bottom Line

In the end, we want you to choose the box that is going to best suit your needs and lifestyle. Both of these services offer amazing variety and delicious recipes so it’s pretty hard to compare apples to apples. Our recommendation, if you’re looking for tasty and healthier alternatives or special dietary needs, Goodfood is the perfect option. If you’re looking to elevate your family meals with tasty recipes and save time on the whole dinner process in general, HelloFresh will be a great match.
